Our Plan

We are creating a Science Workshop at Camp Simcha, from July 27 - August 11, in order to catalyze the imaginations of campers for science through science-based projects.

Aiding the gradual evolution of ideas, we have the Google Group and Google Doc; and for punctuated evolution we have this Blog. Let organized chaos reign in our Google Group and Doc. Our four master schemers, David, Jake, Yossi and Shlomo will distill that thinking into blog posts. The Google Group and Doc is a feeding frenzy of thinking. This Blog hosts polished thoughts.

Our Team

We are a group of some 20 enthusiastic students - primarily from Yeshiva University. Jake Friedman, David Sweet and Yossi Steinberger and many of the students are also participating in the world-wide iGEM competition, for which the Camp Simcha Science Workshop fulfills the requirements for human practice and overall excellence.

The NYC iGEM Team is composed of advisors and students affiliated with Cornell University, Yeshiva University, NYU-Poly, Columbia University, Hunter College, Sloan-Kettering Institute and the Dalton School. We plan to engineer bacteria to be resistant to high levels of radiation. Applications include space travel, bioremediation in Japan and crop hardiness.

Wizened advisors for the science workshop include Ted Scovell, Director of Science Outreach at Rockefeller University.
